Steps to Engagement
Step 1: Grow Into a True Disciple of Christ
Before Christians can ever hope to significantly impact culture and invariably the world, they must fully release control of their lives to Christ. The systems and values of this world are diametrically opposed to those of Christ and His Kingdom, and all people must choose which system they will serve. When Christians begin to allow God to direct their agendas and goals, they then begin to see their lives become part of God’s eternal purposes. The are “born again,” not merely into a new nature, but into a new agenda.
Next, Christians need to join a local church faithful to Biblical Christianity, and they need to integrate their lives into that church. Through the church they need to find people to help train them in the foundations of the Christian faith and in understanding the Bible. Many Christians also need assistance from trained counselors to gain freedom from bondages and wounds from the past. Christians should also learn how to effectively share the Gospel, how to train younger Christians, and how to live empowered and directed by the Holy Spirit. The character and power of God expressed in Christians’ lives must fuel any attempt at advancing God’s purposes.
